Sedgwick Reserve includes approximately 5,896 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley, about 30 miles northwest of the city of Santa Barbara. Sedgwick includes portions of the Lisque and Figueroa creek watersheds, oak woodlands, annual grasslands, and coastal sage scrub. Sedgwick also includes a perennial marsh that provides habitat for tricolored blackbirds (Agelaius tricolor), a California endangered species.

Sedgwick is home to several lodging and educational facilities, including the Tipton House, Studio Apartment Cabin, Class Camping facilities, Ranch House, and Bryne Observatory.
